SAN FRANCISCO, CA (May 2, 2015) – For the ninth consecutive year, the Hawai'i Pacific Women's Tennis Team (21-6) will participate in the NCAA Division II National Championships. The Sharks earned their spot with a 5-2 win over Academy of Art (13-6) in the West Region Final.
The 11th ranked Sharks exacted revenge on the ninth-ranked Urban Knights after Art U won the last matchup in the PacWest Semifinals.
HPU put itself in good position with two wins in doubles. The fifth-ranked team of 
Kristyna Hancarova and 
Nicole Hoynaski beat the #19 team in the land, 8-5. At second doubles, 
Lorena Gheorghe and 
Lea Kruse-Utermann won by the exact same score.
The Sharks took a 3-1 lead after 
Vivian Hansen quickly disposed of her opponent 6-3, 6-1. Art U struck back with a win at sixth singles to pull to within 3-2. Hancarova (#13) beat another ranked opponent (#23) 6-4, 6-2 to give HPU some breathing room. Gheorghe then booked HPU's tickets back to Arizona with a 6-4, 6-1 victory at fourth singles.
HPU will play in the national tournament beginning on May 13th in Surprise, Arizona.
