Darren Vorderbruegge. "We shot the ball well again and hopefully we can that up. We also got to work on a lot of defenses and offensive situations."
The Sharks got their second win against West Coast Baptist this week after beating the Eagles 111-38 on Tuesday, but it was a different game on Saturday.
The Eagles held a brief 3-2 lead in the opening minute, and traded scores for the first couple of minutes. But a 17-2 run by the Sharks put HPU up by double digits and WCBC never got closer. HPU did get a 25-point first half lead before the Eagles cut it to a 54-34 halftime deficit.
The second half saw the teams play nearly even until a late surge gave HPU the 33-point win 102-69.
"I'm glad it was more competitive today," said Vorderbruegge. "They had a good game plan and we made some adjustments. It kept everyone on their toes."
The Sharks will step up in competition next week, as they open PacWest Conference play with a PacWest Hawai'i Challenge game against Hawai'i-Hilo on Friday.
"We've got four days to get ready for our first league game," said Vorderbruegge. "We haven't played well defensively in the last few games and we have no margin for error in the PacWest."
The Sharks will play the Vulcans at the Neal S. Blaisdell Center. It's the first HPU game in the downtown arena this season with tipoff set for 6:30 Friday evening following the HPU women's game with UHH.
