MANOA, Hawaii (February 14, 2016) – The second-ranked Hawaii Pacific men's tennis team swept visiting UH Hilo 9-0, and the Sharks women did the same as both teams remained perfect on the young season at the UH Manoa Tennis Complex.
The Sharks men (3-0) were led by eighth-ranked Jaume Martinez Vich, who dispatched Kainoa Rosa 6-2, 6-0 in the No. 1 singles slot.
Alexander Meyer,
Filip Dolezel,
Torben Otto,
Jakub Hadrava and
Clemens Graute also notched wins in the singles competition.
In doubles action, Meyer and
Thibaud Berland teamed up to down Rosa and Stefan Coney, 8-2. The Sharks also received doubles wins from Dolezel and Hadrava (8-2) as well as Martinez Vich and Otto (8-2).
The HPU women (2-0) were led by
Kristyna Hancarova, who defeated Trixie Croad in the top singles matchup, 6-1, 6-0. Hancarova also teamed up with
Nicole Hoynaski to down Croad and Bianca Novotna, 8-1, in the top doubles flight.
The Vulcan men dropped to 3-1 on the season, while the Hilo women fell to 2-1.
The Sharks women return to the court on Thursday, Feb. 18 to host Chaminade at Central Oahu Regional Park at 10 a.m. The HPU men hit the road to face Point Loma in San Diego on Feb. 29 at 2 p.m.
