WAIPIO, Hawaii (February 18, 2016) – The ninth-ranked Hawaii Pacific women's tennis team swept crosstown foe Chaminade 9-0 at Patsy T. Mink Central Oahu Regional Park to remain perfect on the young season.
The Sharks (3-0) dominated the scoresheet and won by a combined margin of 96-3.
HPU was led by
Kristyna Hancarova, the 15
th-ranked singles player in the nation, who defeated Kim Takara in the No. 1 singles matchup, 6-0, 6-0. In the No. 2 singles slot, 41
st-ranked
Nicole Hoynaski downed Michelle Bucher 6-0, 6-1.
Syna Kayser,
Lorena Gheorghe,
Oceane Adam and
Julia Sauer also posted singles victories for HPU.
In the top doubles slot, Gheorghe and Kayser defeated Takara and Kaua Beamer, 8-1. Hancarova teamed up with Hoynaski to down Bucher and Emma Haurillon, 8-0, in the No. 2 doubles flight. Sauer and Adam also joined forces to notch an 8-0 doubles win to complete the sweep.
The Silverswords dropped to 0-3 on the season.
The Sharks women return to the court on Feb. 29 and face UC San Diego at noon on the road. The No. 2 HPU men also hit the road to face Point Loma in San Diego on Feb. 29 at 2 p.m.
