MANOA, Hawaii (February 7, 2016) – The Hawaii Pacific women's tennis team started Super Sunday by sweeping Cal Poly San Luis Obispo 4-0 in a mid-morning dual match at the University of Hawaii Tennis Complex.
The Sharks (1-0) won via the collegiate Division I scoring rule that results in the first team to notch four points being declared the winner. Had every match been played in their entireties, HPU likely would have swept the board, 9-0.
In the doubles competition, the Sharks No. 2 duo of
Syna Kayser and
Lorena Gheorghe defeated Cal Poly's tandem of Ilana Oleynik and Bryn Bacharach, 6-4. HPU's No. 3 combo of
Oceane Adam and Ali Karamanoleva downed Abigail Bacharach and Molly Reed, 6-2.
In singles, Kayser handled Zoe Oedederk (6-2, 6-2) and Adam downed Bryn Bacharach (6-4, 6-0).
With the loss, the Mustange dropped to 1-2 on the young season.
The Sharks return to the court on Sunday, Feb. 14 to face UH Hilo at Patsy Mink Central Oahu Regional Park at 10 a.m.
