DENVER, Colo. (March 19, 2016) – The second-ranked Hawaii Pacific men's tennis team defeated No. 7 Saint Leo (Fla.), 7-1, to remain undefeated in 2016.
The Sharks (10-0) were led by sixth-ranked
Thibaud Berland, who defeated No. 3 Alberto Barroso-Campos 7-6, 6-7, 6-3 in the No. 1 singles position. Eighth-ranked Jaume Martinez Vich fell in the No. 2 singles spot to No. 13 Alex Theiler 7-6, 6-2. HPU's
Alexander Meyer upset Egor Panyushkin in the No. 3 slot 6-3, 6-7, 7-5.
Jakub Hadrava and
Filip Dolezel also claimed victories in the singles competition for the Sharks, while
Torben Otto's match was not completed.
In doubles action, HPU's tandem of Meyer and Berland teamed up to knock off the No. 7 duo of Theiler and Barrosco-Campos, 9-8. The Sharks also received doubles wins from
Filip Dolezel and Martinez Vich (8-6) as well as Hadrava and Otto (8-6).
HPU will remain in Denver to face Saint Mary's (Tex.) University on March 20, Midwestern State (Tex.) University on March 21 and Cameron (Okla.) University on March 22.
