DENVER, Colo. (March 20, 2016) – The second-ranked Hawaii Pacific men's tennis team blanked No. 38 Saint Mary's (Tex.) University, 5-0, to remain undefeated in 2016.
The Sharks (11-0) leaned on
Torben Otto, who finished his singles match in the fourth position with a brisk 6-0, 6-2 win over Brien Galon. That triumph gave HPU a 4-0 lead before eighth-ranked Jaume Martinez Vich was victorious in the No. 3 singles spot and defeated Jose Antelo 6-3, 6-1 to clinch the team win.
Sixth-ranked
Thibaud Berland,
Alexander Meyer,
Jakub Hadrava and
Clemens Graute also participated in singles action for HPU, but their matches were unfinished as the Sharks clinched the victory.
In doubles action, HPU's tandem of Meyer and Berland teamed up to down the No. 16 duo of Adam Dockery and Galon, 8-5. The Sharks also received doubles wins from
Filip Dolezel and Martinez Vich (8-6) as well as Hadrava and Otto (8-6).
HPU will remain in Denver to face Midwestern State (Tex.) University on March 21 and Cameron (Okla.) University on March 22.
