DENVER, Colo. (March 19, 2016) – The ninth-ranked Hawaii Pacific women's tennis team came up short in a bid to upend No. 3 Saint Leo (Fla.) University, 5-2, on Saturday evening in a matchup held indoors due to snow and cold weather in the area.
HPU's
Kristyna Hancarova, the 15
th-ranked singles player in the nation, was defeated by third-ranked Natalia Siedliska 6-3, 6-0 in the top singles slot. In the No. 2 singles position, HPU's 41
st-ranked
Nicole Hoynaski fell to No. 21 Isabella Robbiani 7-5, 6-4.
Syna Kayser posted a singles victory for HPU by downing Anastasia Wagner 6-3, 6-4 in the third slot, while Sharks player
Oceane Adam was felled by No. 10 Marine Beugre-Guyot 4-6, 6-3, 7-5.
In the top doubles slot, the fourth-ranked team of Hancarova and Hoynaski – which was recently selected as the top doubles tandem in the region, a first for the HPU women's program – dropped its matchup with Siedliska and Wagner, 8-4.
Lorena Gheorghe and Kayser fell to Coralie Pesenti and Robbiani 8-5, while the Sharks team of
Julia Sauer and Adam posted an 8-2 victory over Pauline Helgesson and Beugre-Guyot.
HPU (9-3) will remain in Denver to face Saint Mary's (Tex.) University on March 20, Midwestern State (Tex.) University on March 21 and Cameron (Okla.) University on March 22.
