SAN DIEGO, Calif. (March 5, 2016) – The ninth-ranked Hawaii Pacific women's tennis team downed No. 23 Academy of Art University 5-2 on Saturday morning at UCSD Tennis Courts.
The Sharks (7-1) were led in the No. 1 singles slot by
Kristyna Hancarova, the 15
th-ranked singles player in the nation, who defeated Taisiia Andrieieva 6-0, 6-1. In the No. 2 singles position, HPU's 41
st-ranked
Nicole Hoynaski downed Paula Alcantara 6-1, 6-1.
Syna Kayser also posted a singles victory for HPU, while the remaining singles competitions were abandoned.
In the top doubles slot, the fourth-ranked team of Hancarova and Hoynaski combined to down the tandem of Andrieieva and Annika Schneider, 8-5.
Lorena Gheorghe and Kayser also coupled to defeat ARTU's Alma Thell-Lenntorp and Klara Thell-Lenntorp, 8-6.
The Urban Knights fell to 5-3 on the season.
The Sharks women conclude their lengthy road swing on Sunday, March 6 at 9 a.m. to face Barry University in San Diego.
