LAIE, Hawaii (March 7, 2016) – The second-ranked Hawaii Pacific men's tennis team blanked BYU-Hawaii 9-0 to remain undefeated in 2016.
The Sharks (8-0) were led by sixth-ranked
Thibaud Berland, who defeated Ibrahim Karmadzha 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles position. HPU's
Alexander Meyer notched a win over Wei-Feng Lee in the No. 2 slot 6-2, 7-6(3). Eighth-ranked Jaume Martinez Vich was victorious in the third singles spot after opponent Guillermo Ucelay retired due to injury.
Torben Otto,
Jakub Hadrava and
Clemens Graute also notched wins in the singles competition for the Sharks.
In doubles action, HPU's tandem of Meyer and Berland teamed up to down BYU-Hawaii's duo of Ucelay and Simon Guillin, 8-6. The Sharks also received doubles wins from Graute and Martinez Vich (9-7) as well as Hadrava and Otto (8-4).
HPU now has some time to recuperate before facing Metropolitan State University of Denver on March 18 in Colorado.
