SURPRISE, Ariz. (April 15, 2016) – The top-ranked Hawaii Pacific men's tennis team blanked No. 24 BYU-Hawaii 5-0 in the semifinal round of the PacWest Conference Championships at Surprise Tennis & Racquet Center this afternoon.
With the victory, the Sharks improved to 16-3 on the season and advance to face Azusa Pacific in the finals on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
HPU's top-ranked doubles tandem of
Thibaud Berland and
Alexander Meyer defeated the team of Simon Guillin and Guillermo Ucelay, 8-3. The No. 1 duo is now 17-2 this season.
The Sharks team of
Jaume Martinez-Vich and
Filip Dolezel was also victorious (8-3), as was the tandem of
Jakub Hadrava and
Torben Otto (8-2).
Meyer compiled a 6-0, 6-0 blanking of Volodymyr Kashytski and HPU's
Clemens Graute dominated reigning PacWest Player of the Week Peng Dai 6-2, 6-2 as the Sharks clinched the competition with four matches unfinished.
