Box Score 2 FRESNO, Calif. (April 18, 2016) – The Hawaii Pacific baseball team dropped both ends of a road double dip to Fresno Pacific University, falling 7-4 in the opener and 5-2 in the return matchup, to begin a four-game PacWest Conference series.
The Sharks (26-14, 16-12 PacWest) received three hits in the first contest from
Nolan Barraza, while
Jordan Mopas came off the bench to drive in two. Senior shortstop
Tyler Tokunaga collected two hits in the first game and tripled in a run in the second game.
Tanner Tokunaga posted two hits and stole a base in the night cap.
HPU starter
Rico Garcia (5-4) took the loss in the opener after surrendering five runs on 10 hits, while reigning PacWest Player of the Week
Kyle Detwiler (6-1) suffered the defeat in Game 2 after allowing five runs on nine hits and five walks through eight frames.
The Sunbirds (19-20, 14-11) were led offensively by Nick Pate and Joey Gallegos, who racked up four hits apiece over the two games.
The Sharks are aiming to improve on their 27-20 record from last year, which included a 17-15 mark in conference play. HPU was picked to finish seventh this season in a very competitive 10-team PacWest Conference via a preseason vote by league coaches. The team is guided by 11

Garett Yukumoto, who is the program's winningest coach at 315-210-1.
HPU will remain on the road to finish the season with a trio of four-game series at Fresno Pacific, Dixie State and UH Hilo.
