HONOLULU (April 6, 2016) – The Hawaii Pacific University baseball team will hold Military Appreciation Day and Senior Day this weekend during the team's final home series slated for April 9-10 against UH Hilo at Hans L'Orange Park.
On Saturday, the Sharks host the Vulcans in a doubleheader with games at 2 and 5:30 p.m. Active and retired members of the military will be treated to complimentary food and beverages (with valid identification, available while supplies last). Fans will also get to see the "throwback" uniforms that HPU will wear that day as a tribute to the program's rich history.
Sunday will offer up another double dip as HPU plays UH Hilo again at 11 a.m. and 2:30 p.m. The baseball team will honor its 13-member senior class following the series finale before hitting the road to face Fresno Pacific, Dixie State and UH Hilo to wrap up the regular season.
The Sharks (22-12, 14-10 PacWest) are currently ranked No. 7 in the West Region, and a positive home stretch is needed if HPU hopes to qualify for the postseason; the top six teams in the region advance to the playoffs.
Admission and parking at Hans L'Orange Park is free, and ample seating is available on bleachers along the left-field line and in the covered area behind home plate.
The Sharks are aiming to improve on their 27-20 record from last year, which included a 17-15 mark in conference play. HPU was picked to finish seventh this season in a very competitive 10-team PacWest Conference via a preseason vote by league coaches. The team is guided by 11
th-year skipper
Garett Yukumoto, who is the program's winningest coach at 311-208-1.
