SAVANNAH, Ga. – No. 5 Hawai'i Pacific University made it two-in-a-row as they posted a come-from-behind 5-4 win over No. 7 West Florida Saturday at the Armstrong Tennis Complex.
The Sharks (6-2) trailed after doubles to the Argos (8-3) before coming back for the win.
Once again, the top of the order led the way for the Sharks led by the tandem of
Nicole Hoynaski and
Oceane Adam who collected three of the five points for HPU. The tandem that forms the No. 2 doubles team started by defeating Heather Mixon/Samantha Echevarria 8-2.
Hoynaski, the eighth ranked singles player nationally, defeated No. 41 Paula Lopez at No. 1 singles 1-6, 6-3, 6-0, while Oceane won at No. 3 singles 7-6, 6-3 over Paula Coyos.
Lara Meccico scored for HPU at No. 2 singles with a win against Jordana Lujan 6-2, 5-7, 6-3. HPU clinched the victory as
Barbora Kijasova won at No. 4 singles, beating Diana Vlad 6-4, 5-7, 6-4.
The Argos had opened with wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles as Lopez/Coyos outlasted Meccico/Kijasova 9-7 at No. 1, and Vlad/Valeria Mantilla beat Leticia dos Santos and
Bianca Schulhof 8-3.
In singles, UWF scored at No. 5 with Mixon blanking dos Santos 6-0, 6-0, and at No. 6 as Mantilla beat Schulhof 6-0, 6-1.
The Sharks return to the West Coast for a three-match set opening with Point Loma on Tuesday in San Diego.
