SAVANNAH, Ga. – No. 5 Hawai'i Pacific University bounced back on Thursday with a 5-4 win over No. 14 Valdosta State at the Armstrong Tennis Complex.
The Sharks (5-2) chalked up their first win on their spring break trip with the triumph over Valdosta (5-3).
HPU had to play from behind after dropping two of the three doubles matches, but got the clinch from their leader.
Eighth ranked
Nicole Hoynaski defeated 17th ranked Bea Morales Hernandez 7-5, 6-4 at No. 1 singles to win the fifth point and the match.
HPU got a win at No. 3 singles from
Oceane Adam who beat Laura Ubeda 6-2, 6-2. Adam teamed with Hoynaski to win at No. 2 doubles over Daniela Barta/Anja Coksa 8-6 as the only Sharks to get two wins in the match.
Lara Meccico won at No. 2 singles over Coksa 6-1, 6-2 and Leticia dos Santos won at No. 5 singles over Anke Poncelet 6-0, 6-1.
The Blazers took No. 4 singles as HPU's
Barbora Kijasova fell to Sabrina Schmidt in three sets, 4-6, 7-5, 7-5. VSU also won at No. 6 singles with Barta beating HPU's
Bianca Schulhof 6-0, 7-5.
VSU got the win at No. 1 doubles with Morales Hernadez/Poncelet beating Kijasova/Meccico 9-7 and at No. 3 doulbes with Ubeda/Estes Widdershoven downing Shulhof/dos Santos 8-4.
HPU closes its trip with a match against West Florida on Saturday in Savannah.
