LOS ANGELES -- The No. 5 Hawai'i Pacific University women's tennis team wrapped up their 12-day road trip with a narrow 5-4 loss to No. 29 Cal State-Los Angeles on Thursday afternoon at the Cal State LA Tennis Complex.

The Sharks (8-3) completed their fifth consecutive one-point match and snapped a four-match winning streak. The Golden Eagles (10-4) extended their winning streak to four.

After dropping two of the three doubles points, the Sharks followed by winning the top three singles points. Then CSULA grabbed the bottom two singles.

The match hinged on No. 4 singles, where HPUs
Barbora Kijasova took the first set 7-6 over CSULA's Iris Raileanu, but fell in the second 6-2. The match was settled on the third set that Raileanu won 6-3 for the 5-4 Golden Eagles win.

HPU's combination of
Nicole Hoynaski and
Oceane Adam accounted for three of the Sharks four points. The duo got HPU's only doubles point at No. 2, beating Raileanu/Isabella Lopez 8-3. Hoynaski, ranked eighth nationally in singles won at No.1 over Nozomi Matsuoka 6-2, 6-2, and Adam won at No. 3 over Elizaveta Sokolova 6-2, 6-0. HPU tallied its fourth point when
Lara Meccico ripped Kayleigh Hall 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2.

CSULA got their first two points when Matsuoka/Hall beat Meccico/Kijasova 8-3 at No. 1, and Sokolova/Luciana Di Laura shutout Leticia dos Santos/
Monica Greene 8-0 at No. 3.

The Golden Eagles also scored at No. 5 and No. 6 singles, with Di Laura downing dos Santos 6-3, 6-1, and Lopez beating Greene 7-6, 6-1.
