LAIE Hawai'i -- No. 6 Hawai'i Pacific University battled to grab an 8-1 victory over No. 27 BYU-Hawaii Saturday at the BYUH courts.

The Sharks (12-4), the top ranked team in the west region, took all but one singles point against the Seasiders (16-6).

HPU was paced by play of Philip Dolezel and
Torben Otto.

Dolezel, ranked seventh nationally in singles, defeated Sterling Galli 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1 singles. He also part of the ninth ranked doubles team with
Jakub Hadrava that downed Galli/Chia-Hua Lu 8-3 at No. 1 doubles.

Otto, ranked 10th nationally in singles, beat 38th ranked Guillermo Ucelay 6-4, 6-1 at No. 2 singles, then joined with
Jack Lyttle to beat Ucelay/Simon Guillin 8-4.

Filip Soban and
Juan Erro survived at No. 3 doubles against Ibrahim Karmadzha/Ian Galli 9-8 winning the tiebreaker 7-3.

In the other singles action, Hadrava won at No. 3 over Karmadzha 6-3, 6-3, while Soban beat Tsu-Ping Kuang 6-0, 6-1 at No. 6, and Gerrard Rodriguez downed Guillin 6-1, 2-6, 1-0 (7-4).

The lone point won by BYU-Hawaii was at No 4. Singles, where Lu beat Lyttle 6-7 (10-12), 6-2, 1-0 (7-4).

The Sharks play again on April 17 in Surprize, Ariz., taking on Western New Mexico in a match prior to the start of the PacWest Conference Championships.
