IRVINE, Calif. –Hawai'i Pacific University's Lachlan Viney is the PacWest Conference Men's Basketball Freshman of the Week as announced Monday by the conference office.
 
Viney, a 6-2 freshman guard from Melbourne, Australia/Mazenod, started his collegiate career with a bang in the Sharks games in the GNAC-PacWest Challenge in Anchorage.
 
Viney averaged 13.5 points, 3.5 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 2.5 steals while shooting 56.3 percent (9-of-16) from the floor, 40 percent from the arc (2-of-5),  and 7-of-11 (63.6 percent) from the foul line. He led the Sharks with 20 points along with six rebounds and four steals against Alaska on Sunday, and scored seven points with three assists on Saturday at Alaska Anchorage.
 
Joining Viney with the men's weekly honors are Chaminade's Tyler Cartaino as PacWest Player of the Week and Concordia Irvine's Robert McCoy as PacWest Defender of the Week.
 
The Sharks continue their road trip with a pair of contests in Washington state this week, starting against Northwest Indian College in Bellingham, Wash., on Tuesday. The contest at the Lummi Nation Gym is slated for 5 p.m. HST (7 p.m. PST).
