Sharks Split National Polls Before Thanksgiving

HONOLULU – Hawai'i Pacific University is ranked 23rd by one poll and just outside the top 25 in another as the two major Division II national polls were announced on Tuesday.
 
The 4-0 Sharks are ranked 23rd in the Division II Sports Information Directors' weekly poll, the first top 25 ranking of the season for HPU. The Women's Basketball Coaches Association Division II Poll has the Sharks receiving votes, and sitting at 27th by points in the poll.
 
The two polls also differ on the top spot, with the WBCA going with Drury (Mo.) at 4-0, while the D2SIDA has Lubbock Christian (5-0) in the top spot.
 
Fellow PacWest Conference member Azusa Pacific (4-0) is fourth in both polls.
 
The Sharks welcome a host of nationally ranked teams to The Shark Tank this week with the Malika Sports Tours Oahu Thanksgiving Classic. Heading the way is Minnesota State Moorhead (5-0), who is ranked 11th in both polls. UC San Diego (4-1) is 14th in the WBCA poll, but fell out of the D2SIDA poll to receiving votes this week. Sioux Falls (S.D.) (4-0) is 19th in the WBCA and 21st in the D2SIDA poll. Cal State San Marcos (5-0) at 17th in the D2SIDA, but receiving votes and at 39th by points in the WBCA.
 
Hawai'i Hilo and Chaminade are also a part of the Oahu Classic field.
 
The Sharks face Sioux Falls on Wednesday evening at 4:30 p.m. in the classic, then meet UC San Diego at 2 p.m. on Saturday afternoon.
 
Other games in the classic, all at The Shark Tank, have UH Hilo against Sioux Falls at 6 p.m. Tuesday, and UH Hilo against Minnesota State Moorhead on Wednesday at 2 p.m. before the HPU contest. On Thanksgiving Day, Chaminade plays Sioux Falls at noon, with Cal State San Marcos against Minnesota State Moorhead at 2. On Friday, Minnesota State Moorhead meets UC San Diego at 2, followed by Chaminade against Cal State San Marcos at 4:30. The HPU-UCSD contest is the only game on Saturday.
