IRVINE, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific University leftfielder
Jordan Mopas has been named the PacWest Conference Baseball Player of the Week for his performance against Hawai'i Hilo this weekend at Hans L'Orange Park.
Mopas, a 5-9 senior Ewa Beach, Hawai'i/St. Louis School, led the Sharks to three wins in a four-game series against the Vulcans with his powerful hitting. Mopas went 8-for-15 for the series, with 12 RBIs and eight runs scored and a 1.067 slugging percentage. He bashed a grand slam and a 3-run homer in consecutive plate appearances in the Sharks 15-8 victory on Saturday and added two doubles in the series as well. Additionally, he walked twice, was hit by pitches four times and suffered only one strike out.
Mopas is hitting .370 for the season and leads the PacWest Conference with four home runs and 25 RBIs.
The Sharks are off to an 11-3 start and lead the PacWest with a 1-1 conference record.
Joining Mopas with the PacWest weekly awards are Point Loma's Zach Noll as Pitcher of the Week and Azusa Pacific's Evan Banks as Freshman of the Week.
The Sharks return to the diamond at Hans L'Orange Park on Saturday to start a four-game scheduled non-conference series with PacWest foe Biola. The series features a doubleheader of two nine-inning games on Saturday starting at 2 p.m., with a nine-seven doubleheader next Monday starting at 4 p.m.
