IRVINE, Calif. – Led by three-time selection
Breanna Mackenzie, Hawai'i Pacific University placed four players on the 2019 All-PacWest Conference Team the conference office announced the team on Wednesday.
Mackenzie was chosen to the All-PacWest First Team, and is joined by guards
Samantha Lambrigtsen,
Alysha Marcucci and
Amy Baum who were chosen to the All-PacWest Third Team. Baum was also chosen as the PacWest Freshman of the Year.
The Sharks (20-8, 18-4) finished in a second place tie with Dominican (Calif.) in the PacWest race, already winning 20-games for the third straight season.
Mackenzie, a 5-7 senior from Melbourne, Australia/Box Hill, was voted to the squad by the league's coaches for the third time in her career and the second time to the All-PacWest First Team. She leads the Sharks with 14.1 points per game, ranking 12th in the PacWest. She's second on the team with 6.5 rebounds per game, 15th in the PacWest. She's fourth in the PacWest shooting 45.3 percent from the field (116-of-256), seventh in steals with 1.9 per game, and 15th with 1.5 3-pointers per contest. She was honored as the PacWest Player of the Week once.
Lambrigtsen, a 5-6 senior from Oregon, Ill./Oregon HS who transferred from Loyola (Ill.) three years ago, was named to the All-PacWest Third Team for the second consecutive season. Lambrigtsen is second on the team averaging 14.1 points a game, 13th in the PacWest. She is averaging 5.5 rebounds a contest (25th in the PacWest). She is third in the PacWest at the foul line hitting 84.0 percent (121-of-144), to go with her 45.7 field goal percentage and her 33.3 3-point percentage. She was chosen the PacWest Player of the Week once this season.
Marcucci, a 5-11 sophomore from Melbourne, Australia/Marist-Sion, also repeats as an All-PacWest Third Team selection. She is third on the team in scoring, averaging 14.0 points a game, ranking 15th in the PacWest. She grabbed 4.7 rebounds a contest and has dished out 2.1 assists per game. She is ninth in the PacWest with 1.9 steals per game. She is ninth in the PacWest in field goal percentage, hitting 38.9 percent (137-of-352). She is third in the conference in 3-point percentage (.337, 69-of-205) and is fifth with 2.6 treys per game. She is ninth in the PacWest in steals with 1.9 per game, and eighth in blocks with 0.8 per contest. Marcucci was chosen the PacWest Defender of the Week twice this season.
Baum, a 5-7 freshman from Melbourne, Australia/Rowville Secondary, picked up the Freshman of the Year and All-PacWest Third Team in her debut season. Playing as the Sharks point guard, she averaged 9.0 points a game, and grabbed 6.5 rebounds a contest to lead the team and rate 14th in the PacWest. She leads the conference with 4.82 assists a game and is third in the league with a 2.0 assist turnover ratio. She is 12th in the conference in both steals (1.6 per game) and blocked shots (0.6 per contest, 18 total). She missed a triple-double by one stat in back-to-back games this season. She had been selected the PacWest Conference Freshman of the Week five times this season and the Defender of the Week once.
The Sharks open the women's bracket of the PacWest Conference Tournament on Thursday in quarterfinal action. The third-seeded Sharks meet sixth-seeded Concordia Irvine at 3 p.m. HST (5 p.m. PST) at Dominican's Conlan Center in San Rafael, Calif. The winner advances to face second seed Dominican in Friday's 3 p.m. HST (5 p.m. PST) semifinal. The PacWest Tournament Championship game is set for 2:30 p.m. HST (4:30 p.m. PST) on Saturday.
