HPU's Spatzier Named PacWest Freshman of the Week

IRVINE, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific University's Theresa Spatzier has been chosen the PacWest Conference Women's Basketball Freshman of the Week for her outstanding play last week the conference office announced Monday.
 
Spatzier, a 5-9 guard from Heidelberg, Germany, helped the No. 8/7 Sharks (18-1, 13-0) remain atop the PacWest Conference and stretch their winning streak to 14 with a 98-66 victory at Fresno Pacific last Tuesday and a 105-45 triumph at home against Holy Names on Saturday.
 
She averaged 9.5 points and 6.5 rebounds for the week, with 1.5 assists to go with a block and a steal. She hit 7-of-8 of her shots from the field (87.5 percent), including 4-of-5 from the 3-point arc (80.0 percent) while playing 17.0 minutes a contest.
 
Spatzier grabbed seven rebounds while scoring three points at Fresno Pacific, then scored 16 points with six boards, a block and a steal in the win against Holy Names.
 
For the season, Spatzier is averaging 5.1 points and 2.6 rebounds in 11.6 minutes a contest, while shooting 58 percent from the floor, 44 percent from the 3-point arc and 82 percent from the free throw line.
 
Joining Spatzier with weekly honors are Dominican's Jerusha Paine as PacWest Player of the Week and Biola's Aysia Johnson as PacWest Defender of the Week.
 
HPU hosts two games this week starting tonight (Monday) against Concordia Irvine and Academy of Art on Wednesday. Both contests start at 4:30 p.m. at The Shark Tank.
