KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Hawai'i Pacific University men's and women's soccer teams were honored last week when the United Soccer Coaches announced the Collegiate Team Academic Award winners for exemplary performance in the classroom during the 2019-20 academic year.
 
The Sharks were among the 203 institutions that had both their men's and women's teams recognized. A total of 939 collegiate teams (356 men, 583 women) earned the Team Academic Award.
 
The Collegiate Team Academic Award recipients are active members of the United Soccer Coaches College Services Program with a composite grade point average of 3.0 or better on a 4.0 scale for all players on the roster for the 2019-20 academic year.
 
The HPU women posted a 3.30 for the 2019-20 academic year, while the men tallied a 3.11 to earn the honor.
 
It's the third straight year for the two programs to win the Team Academic Award. The HPU men have won it five times in the last six years, while the women have won it four times in the last five years.
 
United Soccer Coaches annually celebrates the academic achievements of high school and college soccer teams whose student-athletes collectively demonstrate a commitment to excellence in their studies over the course of a full academic year.
