IRVINE, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific University's
Evan Spitzer has been named the PacWest Conference Pitcher of the Week for his outstanding play last week. The announcement was made Monday by the conference office.
Spitzer, a 6-1 junior righthander from Mesa, Ariz./Desert Ridge, hurled the first complete game of his career at any level, as he threw a three-hitter in the Sharks 2-1 win in seven innings in the second game of a non-conference doubleheader against Drury on Saturday at Hans L'Orange Park. Spitzer allowed one unearned run while striking out three and allowing one walk. He used only 103 pitches to get through the contest. Spitzer has seven wins in his HPU career with a 2.45 ERA.
Joining Spitzer with weekly conference honors are Concordia Irvine's Matt Lautz as the PacWest Player of the Week and Fresno Pacific's Jack Foote as the PacWest Freshman of the Week.
The. Sharks (4-5, 0-2) return to PacWest Conference action on Thursday as they open a four-game series against Azusa Pacific at Hans L'Orange Park. First pitch for the single game is set for 6:30 p.m.
