KAHUKU, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific University took the top two spots in both the women's and men's races as the Sharks handily won the 2021 HPU Sharks Invitational at the Kahuku Golf Course.
The Sharks women scored 21 points to beat Hawai'i Hilo with 41 points and Chaminade with 74 points. The Shark men won the dual with Chaminade 23-32.
Super senior
Robyn Kaltenbrunn of Johannesburg, South Africa, won the women's 6-kilometer race in a time of 25:01.0, beating second place teammate senior
Karen Corona-Perez of Ocracoke, N.C./Ocracoke who crossed in 25:45.7. Senior
Maggie Meeds of Anchorage, Alaska/South Anchorage was fourth with a time of 26:18.8. UH Hilo's Olivia Jarvis was third at 25:50.4 and UHH's Emma Heidelmeier was fifth in 26:45.1.
The fourth HPU runner across was freshman
Emma Dominguez of Whittier, Calif./California HS with a time of 26:46.9, with sophomore
Alyssa D'Arpa of North Potomac, Md./Wooton eighth in 27:20.6 to round out the scoring. Other Sharks finishing in the top 10 were freshman
Jacquelyn McEvoy of North Berwick, Maine/Noble ninth in 27:40.0 and junior
McKay Guckenberg of Eureka, Mont./Lincoln County 10th in 28:24.5. Freshman Leila Cheo-Isaacs of Bound Brook, N.J./Ridge ran 15th in 29:34.4, freshman
Jadelyn Rodriguez of Barnegat, N.J./Barnegat was 16th in 29:55.8 and senior
Evelyn Macias of Keller, Texas/Timber Creek clocked a 30:24.4 in 17th.
Junior
Jona Bodirsky of Rettingheim, Germany won the men's race by three minutes, covering the 8-kilometer course in 26:10.9. Junior
Troy Oshimo of Honolulu/Kalani was second with a 29:13.7, with Chaminade's Owen Daugherty third in 29:32.4. HPU senior
David Rutto of Eldoret, Kenya ran fourth in 30:23.5. The Sharks also scored sophomore
Kent Glover of Trussville, Ala./Hewitt-Trussville in sixth in 31:44.4, and freshman
Zander Hassler of Temecula, Calif./Hewitt-Trussville in 10th at 35:30.0.
The Sharks run again next Saturday in the Chaminade Invitational at Kapiolani Park, starting at 7 a.m.
