HONOLULU – The final baseball games between Hawai'i Pacific University and Hawai'i Hilo will be played at Les Murakami Stadium the weekend of May 14-16.
The Sharks (8-16, 8-12) will play the Vulcans (12-11, 12-8) on Friday, May 14, at 6 p.m.
However, that one game could turn into a total of five games during the weekend.
Four of the contests are makeup games for games not played because of field availability issues or weather earlier in the season. The fifth would be a playoff game to determine which team would represent the PacWest Hawai'i pod in the PacWest's AQ Pod Series to determine the conference's automatic qualifier to the NCAA Division II Tournament. That series would be May 20-22 at Azusa Pacific.
The teams have agreed that the total number of games to be played next weekend will be only those needed to determine the pod winner.
UH Hilo needs to win one game to clinch the PacWest Hawai'i pod title, while the Sharks would need to win all five games to be the representative.
After Friday night's nine-inning contest, the teams are scheduled to play Saturday at Noon (nine innings) and at 3:30 p.m. (seven innings). Sunday has a potential 11 a.m. game (nine innings), with the possible playoff game at 2:30 p.m. (nine innings).
The Friday game and Saturday's first game HPU will be the home team. Saturday's second game and Sunday's first game will have UH Hilo as the home team. If the playoff game is played, the home team will be determined by the conference tiebreaker. Again, the teams will only play the number of games needed to win the pod.
Once again, no fans are allowed to attend, only the teams and essential workers will be admitted. All games may been seen on a free video webcast at HPUSharks.com.
