MARSHALL, Texas – No. 8 Hawai'i Pacific University picked up its first win of the season, downing East Texas Baptist 259.155-to-237.660 on Tuesday afternoon at Ornelas Gym.
The Sharks found themselves on top of every single event throughout the match and lost only one heat out of seventeen total.
The Sharks (1-4) found an early lead over the Tigers (0-5) with an impressive 9.80 in the Toss heat of Compulsory. ETBU took a hard deduction in the Tumbling compulsory scoring a 6.35 for an early HPU lead of 37.45-34.55.
HPU continued the dominance throughout the Acro Event into the Pyramid Event with their second perfect 10 out of 10 of the season in the Inversion Pyramid. Freshmen

Saylor Schmidt, and
Amanda Dees were able to crown themselves in the honor. They coupled that with an almost perfect 9.90 in the Open pyramid to all but shut out the Tigers leading into halftime.
Continuing after intermission, the Sharks put up an impressive 9.75 out of the starting 9.90 possible points in their Open heat of the Toss event.
The Sharks did see a few errors in the Tumbling Event, but they were dwarfed by the deductions seen on the Tiger side of the floor with HPU winning the event 53.525 – 45.150
The Sharks scored an 83.23 out of 103.68 total possible in their Team Routine compared to the Tigers' 82.31 out of 99.31 possible to finish off their first win of the season.
In comparing all the events, the Sharks received 30.775 points in deductions throughout the meet compared to the Tiger's 40.00.
The Sharks close out the regular season on the road as they face off against the No. 1 Baylor Bears on Saturday at the Ferrell Center in Waco, Texas. The meet is set to start at Noon HST (5 p.m. CDT).
