PacWest Baseball Preseason Rankings and Teams Revealed

Irvine, Calif. - The PacWest Conference released their preseason baseball rankings and All-PacWest Preseason Team, with multiple Sharks dawning the list.

HPU baseball is coming off an 11-21 conference record and a seventh-place finish in 2022. The team was voted again to finish seventh in the 2023 season. Point Loma garnered most of the first-place votes with seven out of nine, with Azusa Pacific taking the remaining two.

Making the names known last season were Nicholas Jio and DJ Stephens, who was voted to the preseason team. Jio made the 2022 All-PacWest team after having a terrific season leading the Sharks with 55 hits and 33 runs while ranking second on the team with a .346 batting average. Stephens won last year's team batting title with a .359 average, posting 52 hits with two doubles and 17 RBIs. While being voted as an outfielder, he also posted a 2.57 ERA in four appearances on the mound.

The Sharks kick off their season against Minnesota Crookston with a double-header on Feb. 11. First pitch is slated for 2 p.m.
