Spurgin Headlines PacWest Honors as Player of the Year

IRVINE, Calif. – The PacWest Conference announced their All-PacWest teams and special awards on Tuesday afternoon with Abby Spurgin headlining the list as PacWest Player of the Year.

Spurgin ended with 22.1 ppg, tied for fourth most in the country and best in the conference. She put up a monstrous 530 points the second most in school history for a single season, but enough to put her in the all-time top-10 scorers of HPU women's basketball. Spurgin collected five total Player of the Week recognitions with four offensive and one defensive. This being Spurgin's first year in the PacWest she was also voted as the Newcomer of the Year.

Also garnering conference honors was Avery Cargill. Cargill was selected to the PacWest Third Team. She averaged 11.1 pts/g, 3.5 rebounds, and 3.1 assists. Cargill known as a shooter was seventh in the conference in three-pointers made (50) and second in free throw percentage (.857). Cargill also likes to spread the floor leading the team with 85 assists putting her inside the top 10 in the conference. Her ability to find the open woman and control the ball led her to the best assist/turnover ratio in the PacWest (2.0).

The Sharks finished sixth in the regular season and now have a chance at the PacWest Conference title which begins Friday with a first-round matchup with Concordia at 12:30 p.m. HT.
