HONOLULU – The awards kept rolling this past week for women's basketball star
Abby Spurgin as she was named an Honorable Mention to the WBCA and D2CCA All-America Teams.
Spurgin joins an elite list of athletes as the fourth HPU player selected as an All-American and the first since 2020.
Spurgin led the Sharks to a 14-14 record and birth into the PacWest tournament. Spurgin led the PacWest Conference in scoring, blocks and was second in rebounding. She averaged 22.0 pts/game, 9.3 rebounds, and 2.44 blocks. She ranked fifth in the country in blocks per game and also set the new single-game record for HPU when she had seven against Dominican. Spurgin also led the nation for multiple weeks as the top scorer and although she finished sixth she also set the school record for most points in a game with 38 against UH Hilo early in the season.
Central Washington's Samantha Bowman was selected as the D2CCA Ron Lenz National Player of the Year. Brook Olsen of Minnesota Duluth who is a D2CCA first-teamer was selected as the WBCA Player of the Year.
