Box Score SURPRISE, Ariz. – The Hawaii Pacific University men's tennis team defeated UH Hilo 4-1 in the quarterfinal round of the PacWest Championships Thursday afternoon at the Surprise Tennis and Racquet Complex.
Doubles Competition
The duos made quick work of Hilo's top pairs as
Benjamin Loccisano and
Jakub Beran turned out a 6-1 victory over Zen Yoshida and Agustin Gentile. Only a minute behind them was
Riku Ogasawara and
Robin Sanz who proved why they made the All-PacWest team with a 6-2 win over Filippo Di Perna and Jacob Pearce.
Singles Compeition
Sanz brought the momentum from his doubles match and jumped on his opponent Luca Matheiowetz for a 6-3 first set. Sanz put his foot down in the second with a flawless 6-0 and added to the Sharks points.
Mile Matic on court five faced off against Hilo's number seven after needing a replacement and he took care of business with a 6-3,-6-3 victory putting them one point out from the match win.
The Sharks suffered one loss on court two as Di Perna took down Beran in straight sets 6-1, 6-4. Beran found his rhythm in set two but just a little too late. Loccisano closed the book on the quarterfinals with a 6-4,6-0 win over Yoshida.
