"Our goal each year is to continue bringing in the highest caliber players that fit our culture from both a physical and makeup standpoint. With 14 seniors in 2023, this is one of the bigger classes HPU baseball has ever had. I'm excited to announce the signing of these 18 student athletes, who our coaching chose to represent our program and University with the ultimate goal of bringing a PacWest title back to Downtown Honolulu," said coach Fujinaka.
Â
Brennan Kettle Freshman RHP Northland Christian HS, Houston, Texas. Brennan was our first signee in the 2023 class. He is the ultimate strike thrower and has really high upside on his pitch arsenal. His enthusiasm for HPU and wanting to get better as a player is ultimately what stood out for our coaching staff.Â
Shea Blanchard Freshman RHP Laguna Beach HS, Laguna, California. Our coaching staff truly believes that Shea will make an immediate impact for us on the mound in 2024. He carries a mid to upper 80s fastball and throws 3 pitches for strikes. He pitched in the West Coast League this summer, which is predominately a collegiate league for Division 1 players and posted a .81 ERA in 11 innings.
Jordan Otjen Freshman OF Point Loma HS, San Diego, CA. Jordan is the type of physical athlete that we look for. He is every bit of 6'2, lean, and projectable. He was one of the best players in San Diego as just a junior in high school and is known to be a really mature hitter. Jordan is most certainly going to be one of the more physical position players we have on our team and should add some slugging to our lineup.
Mason Sayre Freshman INF Will C Wood HS, Vacaville, CA. I saw Mason when we were up in Northern California this past spring. He has a very wirery body that has a chance to fill in and get really strong. Mason was also his high school's QB1, so the athleticism is certainly present. I know for a fact Mason has been well coached and will fit the culture of this team both on and off the field.
Jarren Ford Freshman 1B Will C Wood HS, Vacaville, CA. Jarren was known as one of the top high school power bats in Northern California this past year. He is a tremendous worker and his character is off the charts. We followed Jarren over the last couple of years and his improvements and ability to continue to get better is ultimately what made our decision so easy.
Carlos Mendez Freshman RHP Bishop Amat HS, Sinaloa, Mexico. Carlos is a low three-quarter, mid to upper 80s pitcher that throws 3 pitches for strikes. We saw him throw last summer and his ability to throw any pitch in any count will allow him to throw early in his career here at HPU.
Jeremy Kahle Freshman RHP Harrison HS, Powder Springs, Georgia. Jeremy DM'd me on twitter last summer and said he had interest in coming to HPU. Fortunately, I got to see him pitch last winter and was blown away at his raw ability. Jeremy will throw 95 mph one day and I'm really glad it'll be in an HPU uniform. His physicality on the mound will be a huge asset to our pitching staff the next few years.
Landen Rota Freshman RHP/ UTL Cardinal Newman HS, Windsor, CA. Our coaching staff is thrilled to be having Landen this fall. Landen had a ton of success with Cardinal Newman earning league MVP honors as a pitcher. He has a mid to upper 80s fastball, throws a ton of strikes, and is a relentless competitor. He has a ton of natural athleticism, which may also allow him to play on both sides of the field at some point in his career here at HPU.
Skyler Agnew Junior INF Grossmont CC, Riverside, CA. A left-handed hitting infielder was probably our biggest need going into the recruiting year. I originally heard of Skyler during his freshman year at Grossmont through a Cubs scout who is a friend of mine. He led Grossmont in extra base hits and was an all conference selection in 2023. Skyler has an opportunity to really make an impact on both the offensive and defensive side and we are very excited to get him this fall.
Luigi Albano-Dito Junior LHP Cuesta CC, Sonoma, CA. Luigi is a 6'4 LHP that will consistently attack the strike zone with 3 pitches. He had a ton of success this year in Cuesta's starting rotation with a 3.4 ERA. We are excited to bring him in as an older guy with some craftiness.
Landen Argabright Junior C South Mountain CC, Cave Creek, AZ. We got Landen pretty late in the summer through a former player of mine, who Landen trained with. Leadership, reliability, and character all stood out the first time I spoke with him. He's a veteran catcher and played everyday at Division I, Coppin State, where he led his team to the NCAA tournament in 2022. He also earned MEAC Rookie of the Week honors while at Coppin.
Cooper Donlin Junior OF/ LHP Oakland University, Plymouth, Michigan. Cooper is a physically gifted athlete with tools that will set him apart. He has above average speed, arm strength, and bat speed. He has the chance to make an impact in the outfield for us as well as on the mound as a sidearm left-handed pitcher.
Enrique Espinoza Junior RHP Los Angeles Mission College, Sylmar, CA. Enrique is a 6'3, veteran, starting pitcher who has had success the last two years at LA Mission. In 2 years, he posted 93 innings, with a 1.32 WHIP and 4.45 ERA. His fastball sits in the upper 80s and has the ability to ramp it up into the 90s.
Conor Hourigan Senior RHP Sacramento State, San Mateo, CA. Conor is coming to us from Division I, Sacramento State. Before Sac State, he pitched at Skyline CC, where he was the Coast Conference North Pitcher of the Year, posting a 10-2 record and a 2.52 ERA. We are definitely excited for him to pitch in some big innings this year.
Caleb Millikan Grad INF Pomona Pitzer, Berkely, CA. Caleb is a left-hand hitting second baseman, who's ability fits perfectly into the type of offense we run. He can run, bunt, and doesn't strike out. On the defensive side, he made only 4 errors in 2022. As Pomona Pitzer's everyday second baseman the last 2 years, he hit for a career .322 average and earned All-Conference honors in 2022. We brought Caleb down to campus during the fall of 2022 and he immediately fit right in.
Scott Armstrong Senior RHP Cal Poly Pomona, Irvine, CA. Standing at 6'5, Scott will be our most physical presence on the mound this year. He is coming off of an outstanding year as Cal Poly Pomona's closer. We will see some big innings this year out of Scott and I feel extremely fortunate to have landed such an impact arm this late in the summer.
Vicente Molina Grad RHP University of La Verne, South San Francisco, CA. Vicente is coming in as a veteran pitcher who has experience pitching in some big post season games with La Verne. His coaches say he's a leader on and off the field, and is a person and player of extremely high character. I'm looking forward to Vicente playing a big role with the culture of this program.
Kyle Harvey Junior INF Palomar Community College, San Diego, CA. We are getting a very physical infielder out of Kyle. He is 6'2 with a very strong build. He has experience playing both SS and 3B so we know we are getting a high level defender that has the arm strength to play on the left side of the INF. Offensively, his bat to ball skills paired with his plate discipline made him one of the toughest hitters to strike out this year in the CCCAA.
