HONOLULU, Hawai'i – The Hawai'i Pacific University volleyball team (4-12, 0-3 PacWest) returns home after a challenging four-match road stretch in California, looking to regroup and reset before their next contest.
The trip opened at Vanguard (9-2, 1-1), where the Sharks showed flashes of fight but ultimately fell in straight sets (22–25, 18–25, 21–25). HPU battled throughout the evening, totaling 28 kills and five aces, but the Lions' consistency at the net limited the Sharks to a .133 hitting percentage.
From there, the Sharks faced a tough outing at Point Loma (11-1, 1-0), as the nationally recognized Sea Lions controlled the match from start to finish. HPU struggled to find offensive rhythm, hitting -.020 on the night.
The road trip closed at Westmont, where the Sharks dropped a 3–0 decision but showed resilience after a slow start. HPU fought back to stay competitive in the final two sets, tallying 30 kills and six team blocks while holding the Warriors to several extended rallies.
With a full week to rest and reset, the Sharks will now turn their attention to the Big Island, where they'll face the University of Hawai'i at Hilo in a nonconference matchup on Sunday, Oct. 5 at 3 p.m. HPU will look to bounce back and rediscover its early-season rhythm before resuming PacWest play.
