HONOLULU, Hawai'i - The Hawai'i Pacific University volleyball team (4-12, 0-3) returns home from a disappointing showing across a four-game road stretch in California.
The series of sweeps began at Vanguard University (9-2,1-1), in which they put up a lackluster but respectable fight. Remaining thoroughly in the game, the Sharks battled to a 22-25, 18-25, 21-25 finish. Unfortunately, the Lions held the Sharks to a modest .133 hitting percentage with 28 kills and five aces.
The trip saw its lowest point at Point Loma (11-1,1-0), where the Sea Lions held the Sharks to an embarrassingly low -.020 hitting percentage on the match and double-skunked the Sharks in the second set.
The final game of the road stint was at Westmont College, where the Warriors skunked the Sharks in the first set. While the team battled back in the second and third sets, the Warriors ultimately held them to a .083 hitting percentage, with 30 kills and six blocks.
The Sharks will rest and recover this week before hopping on a plane again and heading to Hilo to take on the Vulcans this Sunday, Oct. 5 at 3 p.m. in a non-conference match-up.
