HONOLULU – Hawai'i Pacific University (5-15, 0-4 PacWest) upset Chaminade (11-10, 5-1 PacWest) in a thrilling five-set victory to break an 11-match losing streak against the Silverswords (25-21, 25-21, 18-25, 23-25, 15-8).
Three Sharks finished with double-digit kills as HPU picked up its first win against its in-conference rival since the 20-21 season. Sophomore Sophia Cooper led the attack with 15 kills on .406 hitting and added four blocks. She was backed by senior
Peyton McBride, who tallied 13 kills, seven digs, and two blocks, and Junior
Chayse Hoon added 11 kills and five blocks.

Jordyn McCutcheon paced the offense with 30 assists, while senior
Lindsey Tapp and junior
Taylor Kaoihana-Lee combined for 26 digs on the back line to keep rallies alive.
The Sharks came out strong, hitting .323 in the opening set and .207 in the second to build a 2-0 match lead. After Chaminade rallied to even the match, HPU regrouped in the fifth, dominating with a .455 attack percentage while holding the Silverswords to just eight points.
Hawai'i Pacific continues its homestand this Saturday when it hosts Hawai'i Hilo for a PacWest Conference match up at 3 p.m at the Shark Tank.
