Sharks basketball recap

West Earns All-PacWest Honors; Sharks Finish Strong

3/17/2025 4:58:00 PM

Honolulu, HI - Coach Nakanishi's Sharks ended their season on a high note as they took down in-state rivals Chaminade and Hilo in their final 2 games. This marks the second winning season in a row for the Sharks as they finished with a 15-14 record including 10-10 in conference play. With some key returners, the Sharks will look to continue their quest for a conference championship next season.

Joshua West had an impressive season and earned All-Conference honors. The junior from Chicago averaged 13.7 points per game along with 6.3 rebounds. He also proved to be one of the best defenders in the conference with 48 steals. Transfer guard Avi Halpert averaged 8.2 points per game for the Sharks and did an exceptional job running the offense as he led the team in assists.

While the Sharks have a lot of players graduating, they have a strong core returning with West and Halpert. Additionally, Diggy Winbush and Josh Niusulu will return to the court for the Sharks after missing this past year due to injuries. Winbush was second on the team in points per game a year ago, averaging 11.7 and leading the team in assists, while Niusulu averaged 8.7 per game. With Halpert, West, and Winbush, the Sharks should have one of the best backcourts in the conference next year.

With some key returners and the potential for some very talented recruits, there is a lot to be excited about for Sharks basketball next year. The coaching staff has done an incredible job the past couple of years building a strong team culture that has translated to a lot of success on the court. We're all looking forward to seeing the Sharks compete night in and night out for a PacWest conference championship next year!
