LA MIRADA, Calif. - Hawai'i Pacific University (4-9, 0-2) avoided a sweep against Biola University (8-3, 1-0) in a four-set match by taking the first set at Chase Gym.
The Sharks came out of the blocks hot in their second conference bout, but the tide quickly turned against them. The Sharks secured the first set with 13 kills and two service aces.Â
However, after the first set, the Eagles stole the show. The Sharks would only briefly lead the game two more times, coming in the early points of the second and fourth sets, and failed to reach 20 the rest of the match.
The loss did not come without its silver linings, though.
Senior outside hitter
Lindsey Tapp led the Sharks both offensively and defensively with 12 kills and 16 digs, both season highs, while also providing a block. She was backed up by freshman setter
Maile Salang, who provided 19 assists and three service aces.
The Sharks will continue their five-game road trip in Costa Mesa this Thursday as they take on the Lions of Vanguard University in the Freed Center of Leadership at 4:00 p.m. HT. As with all conference matches, the game will be livestreamed on the PacWest Network.
