SANTA BARBARA, Calif. — Hawai'i Pacific showed resilience and growth in a road test Thursday night, but Westmont pulled away for a 68-38 victory in PacWest women's basketball action at Murchison Gymnasium.
Mya Hatchett led the Sharks with 17 points on an efficient 7-of-8 shooting, adding four rebounds and an assist to pace HPU (6-13, 5-8 PacWest).
Kyra Tanabe chipped in six points, while
Lucia Ricci and
Mia Frye combined for seven more as Hawaii Pacific continued to battle against one of the conference's top teams.
HPU finished with 12 points off turnovers and eight fast-break points, reflecting the team's effort to push the pace and stay aggressive. The Sharks also shot 75 percent from the free-throw line, converting nine of 12 attempts.
Westmont (14-5, 10-3 PacWest) was led by Molly Garnand's 14 points and 11 rebounds, using a balanced scoring attack to maintain control throughout the contest.
Despite the final score, Hawaii Pacific showed encouraging flashes on both ends of the floor, particularly in the third quarter, as the Sharks continue to gain experience and build momentum heading into the remainder of conference play.
