WAIPAHU, Hawai'i – Hawai'i Pacific split its doubleheader with Menlo on Tuesday at Hans L'Orange Park, taking game one 7-1 before falling 7-3 in game two.
In game one, the Sharks used a balanced offensive attack to secure the win, recording 14 hits. Hawai'i Pacific opened the scoring in the second inning before breaking the game open with a three-run fifth. The Sharks added insurance in the eighth to pull away.
Jayden Gabrillo delivered a strong performance on the mound, tossing seven innings while allowing just one run and striking out seven. Garrett Sinfield closed the door with two scoreless innings, striking out three to earn the save.
Offensively, Brock Wirthgen led the way with two hits and three walks, while Taydem Hashimoto recorded three hits and scored a run. Tyler Arnold added two hits, including a double, and Ziah Chang drove in two runs in the eighth inning.
In game two, Menlo jumped out early with a three-run first inning and extended its lead in the sixth to secure the split. Hawai'i Pacific responded with runs in the second and fourth innings to tie the game at three, but could not hold off Menlo's late surge.
Kan Taguchi led the Sharks with two hits and an RBI, while Keanu Spenser and Taydem Hashimoto each drove in a run. Christian Perez added a hit and scored twice.
Hawai'i Pacific moves to 11-12 on the season and will continue the series against Menlo tomorrow at 9 a.m. at Hans L'Orange Park.
