Sharks Battle Jessup in Series Finale at Sand Island

HONOLULU — Hawai'i Pacific wrapped up its series with Jessup University on Wednesday at Sand Island, dropping both games of a doubleheader by scores of 5-1 and 15-2.

In game one, Jessup broke through in the second inning with three runs, highlighted by a two-run triple from Kaiya Miller. The Warriors added two more in the fifth on a two-run triple from Maliyah Lawson to extend the lead to 5-0.

HPU got on the board in the sixth inning when Jade Retuta crossed the plate and Makayla Pagampao drove her in with a groundout to shortstop. The Sharks threatened again but couldn't string together another rally as Jessup closed out the 5-1 win.

Danielle Cote led Hawai'i Pacific's offense with two hits, while Felicia Tanno added a double. Lily Pardini went the distance in the circle for the Sharks, striking out one over seven innings.

Jessup carried the momentum into game two, scoring three runs in the first and three more in the second to take a 6-1 lead. Hawai'i Pacific answered in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Cote, then added a second run in the second inning when Cayleigh Naito scored on an error.

The decisive blow came in the fourth inning as the Warriors erupted for nine runs to break the game open. Aaliyah Tinoco drove in a run with a single, Nohemi Livingston delivered a two-run single, Alexis Vega added a bases-clearing double, and Jessup tacked on additional runs to push the margin to 15-2.

Taryn Hirano paced the Sharks offensively in the nightcap, going 2-for-3, while Cote added an RBI hit and Naito finished with a hit and a run scored.

Hawai'i Pacific returns to action with its next matchup coming later this week.
