Sharks Fall in Four-Game Series to Dominican at Sand Island

HONOLULU– Hawai'i Pacific softball dropped four games of its PacWest series against Dominican at Sand Island over Sunday and Monday.

Game 1 – Dominican 6, Hawai'i Pacific 2

Dominican scored three runs in the opening inning and never trailed in the series opener, defeating the Sharks 6-2.

The Penguins added a run in the third before extending the lead with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings. Dominican finished with 15 hits in the contest.

Hawai'i Pacific broke through in the sixth inning. Makayla Pagampao singled to center field to bring home Taryn Hirano for the Sharks' first run. Later in the inning, Naomi Cummings added an RBI single to left field to score Pagampao and cut the deficit to 5-2.

Pagampao led the Sharks with two hits and an RBI, while Hirano, Jade Retuta, Danielle Cote, Brianna Rodela, Alexis Oshiro, and Cummings each added a hit.

Lily Pardini went the distance in the circle for HPU.

Game 2 – Dominican 5, Hawai'i Pacific 3 (10 innings)

The Sharks battled into extra innings in game two before Dominican pulled away for a 5-3 victory in 10 innings.

Dominican opened the scoring in the first inning before Hawai'i Pacific answered in the bottom half when Miquela Leopoldo lifted a sacrifice fly to tie the game.

The Penguins took the lead again in the fourth, but the Sharks responded in the fifth inning. Danielle Cote singled home a run before Leopoldo doubled to left field to drive in another, evening the score at 3-3.

The game remained tied through regulation until Dominican pushed across two runs in the 10th inning to secure the win.

Leopoldo led the Sharks offensively with three hits and two RBI. Cote added two hits and an RBI, while Taryn Hirano recorded two hits.

Trinity Williams and Angelica Oseguera combined in the circle for Hawai'i Pacific.

Game 3 – Dominican 11, Hawai'i Pacific 3

Hawai'i Pacific struck first in the series opener on Monday, but Dominican responded with big innings to claim an 11-3 victory.

Danielle Cote gave the Sharks an early lead with an RBI double in the first inning to score Taryn Hirano.

Dominican answered with four runs in the third inning and added two more in the fourth to take control of the game.

The Sharks cut into the deficit in the fourth inning when Naomi Cummings doubled to left field to score Miquela Leopoldo, followed by an RBI single from Felicia Tanno to bring home Cummings.

Dominican sealed the game with a five-run sixth inning.

Cote led the Sharks with two hits and an RBI, while Cummings and Tanno each drove in a run.

Game 4 – Dominican 8, Hawai'i Pacific 7

Hawai'i Pacific built a six-run lead but Dominican rallied late to win the series finale 8-7.

The Sharks jumped ahead early in the first inning when Miquela Leopoldo tripled to drive in Taryn Hirano before Olympia Jara added a sacrifice fly to make it 2-0.

Dominican scored in the third inning, but Hawai'i Pacific erupted for five runs in the fourth to take a 7-1 lead. Makayla Pagampao started the rally with an RBI single before Hirano drew a bases-loaded walk. Leopoldo added another RBI with a walk, Danielle Cote delivered a sacrifice fly, and Jara capped the inning with an RBI double.

Dominican began its comeback with two runs in the fifth inning and then scored five runs in the sixth to take the lead.

Leopoldo finished with two hits and two RBI, while Felicia Tanno added two hits. Pagampao, Hirano, Cote, and Jara also drove in runs for the Sharks.
