HONOLULU – Hawai'i Pacific University Vice President for University Relations and Acting Athletic Director
Sam Moku announced today the appointment of
Dallas Correa as head baseball coach for the Sharks.
Correa has served as an assistant baseball coach at HPU for the last three seasons and succeeds Garret Yukumoto who left the program in June.
"Dallas has a bright future ahead of him," said Moku. "He's a local boy who has risen through the ranks of baseball and now has a chance to lead the Sharks. Dallas will be a great role model for our players and I'm looking forward to great things."
"I am excited for the opportunity to be the head baseball coach at HPU," said Correa. "It's an honor for me and I'm looking to take the program to new heights both on and off the field. I want to thank Sam and President (John) Gotanda for their confidence in me to lead the Sharks."
Correa was assistant coach and recruiting coordinator for the baseball program. He also oversaw the team's catchers, academics, and strength and conditioning programs.
While a graduate assistant coach at HPU, Correa was the manager of the Marysville Gold Sox in the summer of 2017 after serving as an assistant coach the previous year in the Great West League.
While at Hawaii Pacific, Correa has had the privilege of coaching three HPU players currently in minor league systems throughout professional baseball: Rico Garcia (30th Round, Rockies), Brandon Bonilla (13th Round, Orioles), and
Matthew Gunter (33rd Round, Blue Jays).
Prior to his collegiate coaching career, Correa was a catcher for Pacific (Calif.) in the NCAA Division I West Coast Conference. He was a two-time All-ILH catcher and two-time ILH Champion at St. Louis High School in Honolulu, where he also was named an Under Armour Pre-Season All-American before graduating in 2011.
Correa earned a Bachelor of Science in Biochemistry in 2015 from Pacific and a Master of Secondary Education in 2017 from Hawaii Pacific.
An educator on and off the field, Correa is also a seventh-grade science teacher at Niu Valley Middle School.
