Men’s Basketball Season Ends On Two Wins

Honolulu, HI (March 5, 2011) – With two straight wins, including today's 74-70 win over Grand Canyon, Hawai'i Pacific finishes the season with momentum. With HPU up 72-70, and less than a minute to play, HPU got a steal from Nick Frazier, followed by another defensive stop to win the game.  

With 9:25 left to play, HPU trailed 64-57, and then went on an 11-1 to take a three point lead. Two free throws by Jason Jackson gave HPU the lead with 7:23 left to play, a lead it would not surrender. The Sea Warriors led by five with 4:12 left, and the defense closed out the game.  

The first half was close, featuring three ties, with no team leading by more than six. The game was tied at 35 after the first period.

LaBrent Chappell continued his recent strong play with 15 points to lead HPU.  Kyle Allen had 13, Jason Jackson had 12, Adrian den Dulk had 11, and Frazier had nine. In their final games, Jackson and Royal Edwards each had nine rebounds. Chappell also led the Sea Warriors with five assists.   

HPU closes the season at 12-16 and 7-9 in conference. The 'Lopes fall to 14-12, 9-7, they were led by Brad Carroll who had 17 points.
