Waipahu, HI (April 24, 2011) – Hawai'i Pacific took both ends of a non-conference doubleheader against the University of Hawai'i-Hilo. HPU used outstanding starting pitching to win 3-2 in game one and 3-0 in the second game. The Sea Warriors are back over .500 at 22-21 on the season.

Game one was originally scheduled as a seven-inning game, but it would take nine for HPU to win. Both starting pitchers were superb, and Hilo led 1-0 after six innings. HPU scratched out a run without a hit in the seventh to force extra innings. Kale Sumner walked and advanced to third on a pair of groundouts, he then scored on a wild pitch. The Vulcans scored a run in top of the eighth, but again the Sea Warriors matched it in the bottom of the inning. A walk to Jordan Oshiro got HPU going, like the inning before he was moved to third with two outs. HPU's all-time RBI leader Blake Amaral added to his total with a triple into right field. Starter Jeremy Fujimoto was relieved by Bobby Jackson who set down UH-Hilo in order in the top of the ninth. With one out Lanan Rice-Kashima and David Greenstein walked, and a base hit by Wade Tamaru loaded the bases. Pinch-hitter Troy Ajer chopped a ball towards third and the only play was at first, scoring Rice-Kashima to give HPU its second last at-bat victory in as many days.

Fujimoto pitched eight innings giving up eight hits and two runs while striking out six. Jackson got the win and moves to 3-0. HPU just managed four hits on offense, but took advantage of seven UH-Hilo walks.

HPU kept the offense going into game two, scoring two runs in the first inning. Amaral drove in both runs on a single into center field. That was enough for Taylor Hill in his first start of the season. Hill limited Hilo to four hits in seven innings. The Sea Warriors would add another run in the sixth inning as Jordan Inamasu tripled home Greenstein.

Max Newman went 3-3 with a run scored to lead HPU's offense, Inamasu was 2-3. Hill struck out seven batters while just walking one.

HPU next hosts Academy of Art in the final series of the year, starting on Friday at 6 P.M. at Hans L'Orange Field.

Notes: The two teams split the season series at six apiece, with each team winning four of six at its home field…HPU can secure second-place in the PacWest with one win in the final four conference games against Academy of Art…Hill was named PacWest Pitcher of the Week after the game.
