Honolulu, HI (October 15, 2012) – The Hawai'i Pacific volleyball team (9-7, 3-5) got a huge win against PacWest heavyweight California Baptist (15-4, 8-2) in four sets (25-20, 25-23, 21-25, 25-19). The win moves the Sea Warriors into seventh place in the league; three days ago HPU was in 13th place.
HPU made a statement from the start running out to a 7-1 lead to start the match. The Sea Warriors would eventually lead 16-10, CBU would cut the lead to three several times but HPU closed out the 25-20 set.
The Sea Warriors led most of the second set, but trailed 20-21 in the late stages. With the set tied at 22,
Amanda Moriarty got HPU the lead back and

HPU also seemed to be in control the third set, leading 14-7. With the score 18-12 CBU went on a 6-0 run to tie the score. The Sea Warriors would commit four errors down the stretch to lose the set 21-25.
HPU again started quick in the fourth set with a 10-6 lead. The Sea Warriors' lead would fluctuate but never be relinquished as HPU closed out the Lancers in four sets.
Recca had a huge game for HPU with 21 kills while hitting at a .340 clip.
Kasey Thompson hit a heavy ball on her way to 13 kills and a .346 hitting percentage.
Pihanakealoha Kea lead the offense with a game-high 49 assists. Head coach
Daryl Kapis was pleased with his setter “Pihana Kea set an amazing game. To get 20 kills in game four shows you how well she was connecting with the hitters.”
HPU smothered the floor with four girls tallying double-figure dig nights. Moriarty led the way with 14,
Kara Wong had 12, Kea had 11, and
Chelsey Buyuan had 10. “Our floor defense was amazing. To have four girls with double digit digs is fantastic,” said Kapis.
