Kaneohe, HI (October 25, 2012)-
Daniel Haehre scored a goal and
Alejandro Porras added an assist as the Hawai'i Pacific (7-6-2, 6-3-2) men's soccer defeated Bethesda University (CA) (3-9-1) by the score of 1-0. Alexander Bernsten made four saves in his first start of the season for the Sea Warriors.
The first half played fairly even as the two unfamiliar teams felt each other out for weaknesses. The Sea Warriors would break through late in the first half when Porras played a give-and-go to Haehre who had come off the bench. The streaking Haehre would tuck the ball inside the right post with just under two minutes to play in the half giving HPU a 1-0 lead.
Second half play would open up with the Sea Warriors attempting to cash in on several good chances. Flame keeper Hyeokjin Choi made several big plays holding the HPU lead at 1-0. A stout Sea Warrior defense only allowed two shots on net in the second half, both of which were well outside the box leading to relatively easy saves for Bernsten.
“Bethesda is an organized, very decent squad. It was a nice win to take into our final three conference games. We want to send our seniors out on a positive note,” said head coach
Chris Fisher.
The match would conclude with Bethesda holding an 11-10 advantage in shots while the Sea Warriors held the advantage in shots on goal 6-4 and corner kicks 7-4.
The Sea Warriors return to PacWest play when they host Dominican University on October 28th at Atherton Field; game time is scheduled for 12:30pm.
