EWA BEACH, HI (October 15, 2013) – The Hawai'i Pacific Men's Golf Team shaved six strokes from its team score on opening day, but it wasn't enough.
James Fawssett again led the Sea Warrior with a three-over 75.
Like clockwork, Fawssett was again a standout. The senior from England was a par machine on Tuesday, but only converted one birdie opportunity.
"I struggled with my driver all round, which contributed to me not taking advantage of the par 5s," said Fawssett.
Gabriel Hernandez was right behind Fawssett with a 76. The two Sea Warriors had similar rounds not only in the final tally, but both men had issues off the tee.
"Today didn't go so well. I was scrambling on every hole and couldn't seem to drop any birdie putts," said the freshman.
The Columbia Blue and Kelly Green had two others also bunched together.
Alec Fourie posted a 77 as
Kevin Goldstein shot a 78.
Jeff Blais had some struggles on his way to an 80, but it wasn't all physical.
"I struck the ball okay for the most part, but I really let my emotions fly off the handle halfway through the round. After that, I missed a few putts and it ruined my performance. I need to reevaluate what I'm doing with my metal game," said Blais.
The competition raised its play as well, resulting in Chaminade carding a 296 for the win. BYU-Hawaii was next with a score of 303, just edging HPU which had a 306. For the second consecutive week, CUH's JT Trevathan took medalist honors with a 71.
HPU will next travel to Kona for the Dennis Rose Invitational hosted by UH-Hilo on October 28th.
