STOCKTON, Calif. – Hawai'i Pacific University men's golf faced one of its toughest tests of the season at the NCAA West Regional, finishing 17th overall in a loaded 21-team field at The Reserve at Spanos Park.
The Sharks posted team rounds of 301 and 303 to finish at 604 (+28) over the two-day event, competing against several nationally recognized programs and top regional contenders.
Colorado State-Pueblo captured the team title at 569 (-7), followed by Western Washington at 576 (E) and Colorado Christian at 579 (+3). Hawai'i-Hilo led the Hawai'i programs in ninth at 589 (+13), while HPU closed out the week 17th overall.
Individually, Kyle Krupp delivered one of the standout performances of the entire tournament. The HPU standout fired back-to-back rounds of 70 to finish at 140 (-4), earning a tie for second place in the field. Krupp's steady play positioned him among the regional leaders from start to finish, matching several nationally ranked competitors and finishing just one stroke off the individual medalist.
Shion Suzuki added rounds of 73 and 75 to finish at 148 (+4), while Rico See carded a two-day total of 156 (+12). Dylan Sakasegawa improved in the second round, posting 79 after an opening 82 to finish at 161 (+17). Miles Atkinson rounded out the Sharks' lineup at 163 (+19), also showing improvement in round two.
The tournament featured more than 100 competitors, with multiple players finishing under par across the 36-hole event. The challenging layout at Spanos Park tested consistency throughout, particularly on its longer par-4 and par-5 holes.
While the Sharks' team finish did not land inside the top half of the standings, the event provided valuable regional-level competition experience. Krupp's runner-up finish highlighted HPU's ability to contend individually against some of the strongest programs in the West.
Hawai'i Pacific will look to carry that momentum forward as the season continues.
