WAIKOlOA, HI (October 28, 2013) – The Hawai'i Pacific Men's Golf Team played in its first big tournament of the season today at the Dennis Rose Invitational hosted by Hawaii Hilo. The Sea Warriors posted a two round score of 628 on the Waikoloa King's Course.
James Fawssett, the only Sea Warrior to have played in the Dennis Rose last year, had trouble in the opening round as he scored an 81. The senior rebounded in the second round with a more characteristic 76.
"It was a tough day at the office. I drove the ball poorly, losing five balls on the day. I didn't feel confident on the greens either and lacked birdies," said Fawssett.
Fawssett's total of 157 was matched by
Alec Fourie, putting both players in a tie for 40th place in the 55 golfer field. Fourie was consistent, shooting rounds of 78 and 79.
Kevin Goldstein's day had peaks and valleys, the freshman shot an 83 in the opening round, but then trimmed off eight strokes for a 75 in the second round.
Gabriel Hernandez and Jeff Blais each totaled 161 for the day. Hernandez was steady (81, 80) while Blais started off with a 78 but dropped five stokes in the afternoon.
HPU will return to the course tomorrow to play the final 18 holes of the tournament.
