WAIKOLOA, HI (October 29, 2013)—The Hawai`i Pacific Men's Golf Team completed the final round of the Dennis Rose Invitational hosted by Hawaii Hilo on Tuesday on the Waikoloa King's Course.
The Sea Warriors were disqualified in the final round after an injury and a rules violation only allowed three of the five golfers to finish.
Leading the way for HPU was senior
James Fawssett who shot a third round 78 for an overall tournament score 235.
"I started horribly with a triple bogey and a double bogey on the first two holes, but then I played solid. Unfortunately, it was too late as the windy conditions made it tough to make birdies," said the Englishman.
A pair of freshman rounded out the remaining HPU scores as
Alec Fourie slipped a little off his early pace, shooting an 83, after rounds of 78 and 79 yesterday.
"I hit the ball well and played the wind pretty well, but I am battling an injured elbow. I was putting really really well but struggled on the par threes," said Fourie.
Kevin Goldstein finished round three with an 82, tying him with Fourie for 42nd place with an overall score of 240.
Gabriel Hernandez was disqualified in the final round after violating the one ball rule. Golfers must use the same brand and model of ball throughout the round.
"I started with a pretty decent round, but I learned a lesson today after being DQed for just a stupid rookie mistake," said the freshman.
Jeff Blais was unable to finish his round due to injury.
Host Hawaii Hilo took the team crown with an overall team score of 860 and Vulcan Chris Shimomura took the individual title by two strokes with a 209.
The Sea Warriors have now concluded the non-championship season.
