LAIE, HI (November 6, 2013)—The Hawai'i Pacific Women's Soccer (6-8-2, 4-5-2) fell 1-0 to intra-island rival BYU-Hawaii (8-4-2, 7-3-2) on Wednesday. The Seasiders scored a late goal in regulation to steal the victory.
After their four-goal outburst against Academy of Art on Saturday, the Sea Warriors again found themselves in another defensive battle.
The Seasiders tested HPU goalkeeper
Anu Kahele-Manners within the first minute of the game forcing her to make two of her five saves in the first half.
The Sea Warriors had chances of their own in the first half registering three corner kicks and a shot between the 11
th and 16
th minutes,
With both sides failing to find the back of the net the match went to the break in a scoreless tie.
Kahele-Manners was tested early again in the second half stopping two shots in the first two minutes of the second frame.
Sophomore
Erika Ellis, who scored a pair of goals Saturday, managed to get shots on frame in the 63
rd and 65
th minutes, but the Seasider goalkeeper was up to the challenge.
The first goal of the match would be the only goal of the match after BYUH managed to score in the 88
th minute giving them the 1-0 victory.
Ellis led the way for HPU offensively with the two shots on goal.
Ashlyn Ubongen chipped in with three shots, but none of them were on frame.
Kahele-Manners had another strong game in net for HPU stopping five Seasider shots.
The Sea Warriors wrap up the regular season on Saturday, November 9
th against cross-town rival Chaminade. Kickoff is scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
